I just HAD to share this recipe I found on Pinterest for Carmelized Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic and Brown Sugar.

They were TO DIE FOR:
Ingredients:
1 lb brussels sprouts
1/2 lb bacon
1-2 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp brown sugar, not packed
4-6 tbsp balsamic vinegar (enough to deglaze the pan)
salt and pepper to taste
Cut sprouts in half and peel off outer leaves (the kids helped with this step)
Dice bacon, fry and drain. Set aside.
Heat oil (I reused the bacon pan after wiping it out) and place sprouts cut-side down. Sprinkle with brown sugar and saute for 3-5 minutes until they begin to caramelize.
Deglaze the pan using balsamic vinegar.
Use tongs to flip sprouts and continue to saute until the core/stem is fork-tender and both sides are coated with the sugar vinegar mixture.
Add back the bacon and season to taste.
Modified from Miss Make's RecipeThe fact that this is what the kids' plates looked like, even when serving "Barbie Cabbages" is a testimonial:

I have to admit it, I like brussel sprouts. This recipe sounds fabulous. I'm definitely going to have to give it a try. I'd love it if you'd share this at Whimsy Wednesdays at www.thenymelrosefamily.blogspot.com/2012/03/whimsy-wednesdays-3.html. We go live Tuesday night at 8 EST. I'm following GFC.
ReplyDeleteMy kids too love Brussel sprouts. Especially with garlic and backed with olive oil. The bacon really makes this dish! Yum!
