I was excited when JannYvette invited me to join the Tour Through Blogland, and I was super flattered when she said all these nice things about me.  (*blush*)

The idea of this tour is to quickly introduce you to other wonderful bloggers you may not already know about.  (And without having to randomly ‘pick them up’ in some shady bar on Pinterest.)

JannYvette has an amazing blog (Confessions of a Junkaholic) which features her painted projects, a few recipes and a whole of lot of salvaged inspiration.   I have recently started following her on Facebook and I love her projects.

She also has a booth featuring her wonderful designs at Woodstock Market, so if you are in the mood to buy some beautiful treasures, and you are in the Actworth, Georgia area, be sure to swing by for a visit.

So, now I’ve gotta share a little bit about ME:

Well…. I am a former scientist (yes, like test tubes and blood samples kind of scientist) and I quit my job in 2009 to stay home with my kids.  I actually used to blog about work-life balance as a working mom in science before I ever blogged about home improvement and DIY.  I deleted that blog long ago, but there are a few of those types of posts sprinkled in here and there still since being a mom is still a huge part of who I am, and my blog is my new “job” in a sense.

As for my blogging journey as “The Kim Six Fix” well, that started in 2009 when, after selling a house in Durham, North Carolina that we absolutely loved, an exhaustive home search, and 6 months in temporary housing, and a moving fiasco straight out of a sitcom..  we bought the HOUSE FROM HELL in Boston (of course we didn't know it at the time).  It was a 1905 Victorian that had been converted to a duplex and there was so much wrong with it, we named it “The Money Pit".  It was seriously going to become the death of me.

Luckily for me, after a ton of blood, sweat and tears, including multiple room remodels, and one of my biggest projects of all time: Gutting an awful kitchen and re-doing it from the floor up...

.. my husband was relocated to the Bay Area, and we were able to sell that house for a big profit and move forward.  We had only owned it for less than a year, but it felt like eternity. All of this house buying and selling, and attending thousands of open houses,  has made me a self-proclaimed expert in home staging, and we have been really lucky that even in some of the worst housing markets, our homes have all sold quickly and for over asking.

In 2011 we bought our current house in the San Francisco Bay area of California and that is what I am chugging along, fixing up, room by room.  My most dramatic makeovers have been the kitchen:

1) What am I working on?
I am currently hemming and hawing about my master bedroom and sewing room.   I’ve talked about it before (and even brainstormed), but still am dragging my feet.

Honestly? I am hoping to sell this house and move again (shhh.. I know, I know.. I’m a glutton for punishment) so I can’t decide it if is worth a big room makeover.

Well, I don’t really have a genre.  I do a lot of stuff..  Crafts, Recipes, Holiday decorating, DIY, hard core DIY…

I guess I differ from others because I am unfocused since that is how I am the most creative.  I am a FORCE THAT CANNOT BE CONTAINED!!


3) Why do I write/create what I do?
I write in order to share my projects and to help encourage others.  This (sometimes long and painful) journey has changed the person I am.  I have learned a lot about myself, my skills and the DIY world.  I have really grown to love and enjoy this corner of the internet and the other bloggers who share it with me.  I’ve met so many wonderful people, and felt so encouraged.. it has replaced my fulfillment I felt from working outside of the home in science.

I hope that I can encourage other people, including my kids to try to do things out of their comfort zone.  You ARE smart/strong/able enough.. you just have to be willing to try. That is the one takeaway I hope my readers get from this blog. 

4) How does your writing/creating process work?
Ha ha ha ha ha.. This question cracks me up.  I have no ‘process.’ I am a self confessed SPAZZZ.  I work on things when I feel like it, I have no schedule and often am chugging out posts mere hours before they go live (I am currently sitting in Starbuck writing this on Sunday afternoon because I promised I would post it Monday morning.)  I’m not a planner and although I know that isn’t for everyone, I appreciate people who stick by me, never knowing what to expect.


Now I want to introduce you to two bloggers that I love, and that I’ve met through a wonderful online blogging community.
First up is  Karen Marie, from Dragonfly & Lily Pads  (you can also find her on Facebook)

She has been blogging since late 2011 and is an empty nester with a love for finding things that she can transform and give new life.  My favorite thing about her is that she is a fellow Silhouette Junkie (squee! LOVE THAT) and often participates in the monthly Silhouette Challenge.  This is my favorite one she has done lately.  She made those flowers with her Silhouette!! Love them!

She is also is into crafts and DIY and decorating.  She is a lot like me in that she doesn’t fall into a single “category” of blogger. She just writes about ALL the stuff she loves.  One of my other favorite projects she has done is this bed she built from scratch using Ana White’s plans.  I love a lady who can use power tools!

 Finally, I want to introduce you to Cathy, from Vintage, Paint and More (you can find her on Facebook)

Cathy is also an empty nester and former nurse who has been blogging about all her projects since 2011. She is a crafter and I am always impressed with the ideas she comes up with.  Plus her work is always beautiful.  She is the one who taught me how to make book page wreaths.

 And just in time for Halloween,  you need to see her drop cloth pumpkins.  They are just the cutest!

 And she doesn’t just craft (although I admit, those are always my favorite projects of hers.. )she also does a little DIY and decorating.  Are you sensing a trend here?
