Today’s project isn’t really about the final product, although my test mason jar came out pretty cool.  It is more about the technique and the result of playing with different layers of paint on the two sides of clear glass.  I have painted the inside and outside of glass vases before, but I wanted to see if I could double up the technique.



I started with an ever-popular mason jar and used some vinyl stickers I had in my craft stash. 
I wanted to make the outside of the jar opaque but instead of a solid color I decided to try a metallic finish spray paint.  I’ve seen metallic mason jars floating around pinterest for a while so I thought I’d try it.

And then I removed the stickers which left transparent voids. Even this jar looked sorta cool, but I wanted to see what would happen if I added a contrasting color to the interior. I had a sample of chalk paint that I decided to use on the inside of the jar. The peach against the silver isn’t a typical color combo I would use, but like I said.. this was just an experiment on the technique.
I just dumped it in and poured it out.  Nothing to it.   The end result was pretty neat.  Because of the thickness of the glass you get a secondary shadow around the outsides of the shapes.  I bet you could create some really awesome secondary patterns.  It has my mind racing with ideas.
