Turn an old frame into a pretty jewelry display

Without further ado.. Here is Meg:
Hi guys! I’m Meg, and I blog at Green With Decor. I’m excited to share a fun tutorial with you guys today: transforming an old frame into a pretty jewelry display.

What a clever idea! An easy tutorial to turn an old frame into a pretty jewelry display.
I love having my jewelry organized and on display. Otherwise, I tend to forget about pieces and just wear the same few over and over again.

Here’s what you need for this project:

  • Old picture frame
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Pretty scrapbook paper (1-2 sheets depending on the size of your frame)
  • Cork (a roll of cork works best so you can cut to the exact size you want)
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided tape
  • Nail
  • Hammer
  • Thumbtacks
This is easy to make. Find an old frame at a local thrift store, Goodwill or even your basement. You can find a roll of cork and fun scrapbook paper at just about any craft store.

Here’s how my frame started:

If your frame is in rough shape, you may want to sand it before painting. Wipe it down with a clean rag to get rid of any dirt or dust.

Take everything out of the frame. Keep the picture or whatever was inside the frame. You’ll use it later as an easy way to measure the size of the scrapbook paper and cork you need. It turns out the ‘picture’ inside my frame was just a flimsy piece of paper.

Keep the cardboard that usually comes in the back of the frame, too. You’ll pop this back in the frame to help keep the scrapbook paper and cork in place. Get rid of the glass from the frame; you won't need it.

Give it a few coats of paint with the color of your choice. I love anything green, so I went with green for this one. Plus, I picked green and white scrapbook paper for the inside.

Take the old picture (or piece of paper in my case!) that was in the frame and cut the scrapbook paper to that same size.

I taped two pieces of scrapbook paper together, being sure to line up the patterns so it isn’t obvious that it’s not all one piece.

Cut the cork to the size of the old picture as well. Cutting cork is a little messy so you may want to do this outside or over a blanket that you can just shake right into the garbage can.

I used a roll of cork, so the sides kept curling up. I let it sit under heavy coasters overnight to flatten it out.

Line up the paper and cork, and use double-sided tape to stick the two together.

Place the paper/cork into the frame. I put the cardboard in behind the cork to hold everything in place inside the frame.

Hang the jewelry board in your bedroom, bathroom or closet with a hammer and nail, and plug in some thumbtacks to hold your jewelry. Have fun displaying your earrings, bracelets and necklaces!
