I knew that I would repurpose them some way and since it is all the delicious grilling animals I decided a uni-sex grilling apron would be appropriate (I know that is a little twisted but that was my thinking!)
To determine the dimensions I grabbed the cute one that I wanted to use and "fussy cut" the image on the front. I simply cut 1/2" around the picture. This left me with a piece that measured 17" by 9" and that is the measurement that I based the rest of the apron on.
Next I took the grey towel and folded it in half. I made sure that it was 17" tall which left 4" on the top where there was only one layer of towel.
Sew the two sides of the grey towel in place.
Now press the 1/2" around the image under and sew this piece in place around the three edges, leaving the top edge open. This has created a pocket on either side of the apron.
The next step is to take some of the remaining white towel (the one you cut the image from) and then fold it in thirds so there is a nice edge on the top and bottom. Place this on the top of the apron and sew it in place along the bottom edge.
You will need one more strip the same size as the last. Fold it in thirds and press again. Then cut it in half. Sew it in place one on each side of the top edge of the apron. This is your tie.
Lastly I sewed along the edge of the tie where it had been pressed to keep it from coming apart. I think it turned out so cute!! I think my husband may even be willing to wear it.
This is such a fun project! I made my hubby model it and he had no idea it was made from dish towels!
