Fall is popping up
everywhere lately, and I am loving it. It’s one of my favorite seasons to decorate for, and I love when
the air starts to get a bit cooler so I can break out my boots and scarves.
To get ready for fall, I
have an easy, low-cost fall DIY to share today: make jack-o-lanterns from old
glass jars!
Here’s what you need for
this project:
- Glass jars/Mason jars
- Painter’s tape
- Scissors
- Drop cloth
- Orange spray paint
- Twine
I keep a lot of glass jars and bottles around here. Probably too many, if
we’re being honest, but you never know when they’ll come in handy for a craft
or DIY project.
These little pumpkins
started as pickle jars.
In order to make a face on
the jars, you’ll have to use painter’s tape to cut out the eyes, nose and mouth
of the jack-o-lantern.
Stick the tape on the jar.
I also stick tape around
the inside rim of the jar so paint doesn’t get inside.
Set out a drop cloth.
Spray paint the jars.
I did one coat with the
jar facing up and a second coat with the jar facing down so I could cover the
bottom of the jar.
Let it dry. Take the painter’s tape
off.
Twirl some twine around
the top of the jar for a festive look, tucking the end of the twine underneath
itself to hold it in place.
These are fun to display
by themselves or you can use them as silverware holders for a Halloween party.
I put in some green straws – I love how it looks like the pumpkin stem!

One of my favorite
painting projects to date is painting this old desk. It used to be my grandparents.
