Hello friends! It's Kim from Exquisitely Unremarkable and today I have a super easy DIY cheat for you. I am going to show you how to make a custom wooden sign with a dollar store sticker. It's an easy and inexpensive way to decorate your home and there are no fancy skills required.
I promise.
I have always loved the look of wooden signs, but making one seemed like a daunting task...the idea of stenciling, stamping or free hand letter painting was beyond me. Then I saw a wall decor sticker and a lightbulb when off in my head. Now I whip these signs up on a regular basis.
The dollar store has a ton of decorative wall stickers, they are available in a variety of sentiments, including ones that are appropriate for the holidays. Just pick one that suits your decor or the current season.
Next, you need a board. I usually go to a big home improvement store and have them cut a pine board to my desired size. Then I bring it home and paint it.
Once it's dry, I simply peel the sticker from its backing, place it on the board and use my fingers to smooth it down. The best thing about these stickers is that they are wall stickers and designed to be repositioned if necessary. So if it's crooked or bubbled, I just peel it up and adjust it.
To fully adhere it to the board, I use a quick coat of decoupage gel and I'm done.
Custom wooden sign in less than thirty minutes.
Fabulous.
Thanks for having me today, Kim!
