When my oldest daughter turned eight (a few years ago now) we needed a quick and easy favor to bring to school for her classmates. I originally got the idea for a little "8" made out of donuts from Kendra of Me and My Insanity. We didn't want an entire party with an 'Eight is Great!' theme, but the favors were perfect.
This was our original version.
Since that time, my younger daughter has also turned 8, so we needed to bring these treats out of retirement.

Supplies:
- Mini-donuts (you could do full sized donuts, but I needed 30 favors, which would have meant 60 full sized donuts. For 30 favors I still needed 3 bags of mini-donuts.)
- Lollipop sticks (the 4 inch size was perfect for the mini-donuts)
- Treat bags ( I used the 4x6 size)
- Printable PDF (available below)
- Cardstock- Scissors or Paper Cutter (this is the type I use)
- Stapler
Assembling the treat bags:
Putting the bags together is really straight forward, but I wanted to share a few tips that will make it a little easier and make the treats look a little nicer.
Originally I used pink striped yardstick and just eyeballed the design.
That wasn’t ideal, so I have since created a printable with the design centered and a cut line to make it easier to cut out the designs specifically as bag toppers.
Instead of striped paper, this time I used solid colors. We also wrote “To” and “From” on the back side of the tag instead of including it on the front.
To make sure the donuts stayed stacked so it looked like an 8 (even after carrying them to school in her backpack) we used a lollipop stick inside the donuts. You could also just put them in the bag loose.
I skewered two donuts on each stick and stuck them in the bag with the stick pointing towards the open end of the bag. (A lot of the donuts in my bags were slightly squished and not exactly round, so I made sure I picked out the best ones. As a bonus to this project you will be forced to eat all the extra non-round donuts.. )
When you attach the tags to the the top of the bags, make sure you trap the stick in place between the staples. This will keep the "8" upright.
Even 4 years later, these donut eights were still a big hit with the third graders! I guess it really is GREAT to be EIGHT!
