Memorial day is right around the corner and so it is time for me to set up my annual tribute to America on my mantel. I wanted a more weathered and vintage look this year (although nothing I used it actually old.)
Most of the components were reused, like my Pottery Barn inspired beadboard flag, my burlap banner and the wooden thrift store stars.
There was one project that was brand new, and that was my ‘faux milk bottles’ made from Starbucks Frappucino bottles:
Unlike the bottles I used on my easter mantel (which I spray painted) these bottles were painted from the inside to make them look more authentic.
I poured cream color paint into the jars:
Swirled it around:
I added red vinyl letters I made on my silhouette:
I tied a little twine around the top (after an intense debate here and here) and they were finished:
Here are a few more details:
I hope you wonderful Memorial Day! Don't forget to take a few seconds out of your long weekend to remember all the brave men and women who gave up their lives serving our country. We will be forever in their debt. God bless you, and God bless America.

Those bottles look awesome! Did you leave the paint IN them, or pour it back out? Honest question - because I can't tell if the insides are painted or filled. And I suck at this stuff.
ReplyDeleteI poured it out.. (I actually just poured it from bottle to bottle.) They were still pretty wet on the insides even after pouring it out, but the paint was so thick you couldn't tell the difference in coat thickness.
ReplyDeleteWow, I'd never have guessed that all those materials were new! Love the entire look! I hope you don't mind, but I'd LOVE to feature this in my upcoming patriotic link party this coming weekend. I'm seriously in swoon mode over that burlap banner! :)
