Color Trend 2014: Radiant Orchid (15 Beautiful Exterior Doors)

Pantone has announced it's Color of the Year for 2014 and the winner is:
Radiant Orchid
I have to say that when they first announced it I was not thrilled with the idea with the color of a childhood dinosaur as the latest trendy color.   But now that I have had a chance to let it sink in, and after a little research on how to use it, I am convinced that ANYONE can incorporate this color into any style of home.
A great example of how to use purple as high impact pop of color is on a front door.

Using the original warm muted Radiant Orchid color as inspiration, but by changing the shade and tone, you can achieve nearly unlimited looks no matter which style house you have.

  1. This looks awesome! So amazing that you did it all yourself. Thanks for including the kitchen measurements, I'm always curious about those!

It looks amazing! We are about to tackle our 80's kitchen that looks very similar to your 'before' photos. We also have an old box light above our island. How badly was the ceiling damaged when you removed yours? We have textured popcorn ceilings and the moulding solution looks great. I'm just worried that when we remove ours, we will need to create a rectangular 'plate' to place over the area where the box light was previously.

  3. Here is the post where I removed the light. You can see I had a HUGE scar in the ceiling. That is the reason for the molding.. to mask it. I did a (poor) job of re-texturing our orange peel ceiling, but you can't even tell. http://www.thekimsixfix.com/2011/11/how-to-shave-30-years-off-your-kitchen.html If you have any more questions after reading that post, let me know!

  4. I would like to know where you bought the light fixture over your table and chairs. I really like that style!

  5. Hey Bev! Thanks so much.
They were from Home Depot (all three of them.. the one over the kitchen table, over the island and the drop pendant.) There were from the same line (they actually have one that is even larger with 8 bulbs) and the brand is Hampton Bay.
