Can you believe that MARCH starts next week!? How is that even possible?!!
I am proud to say that I (for once) am ahead of the game and have all my St. Patrick's Day decorations out already, including my decorated mantle.
This year I decided to feature an old Irish Proverb: "A light heart lives long" which I stenciled on burlap using my Silhouette (yes.. I know, almost all my projects of late are using it, but I am obsessed with it!)
To make the wall hanging, all I did was mod podge some burlap on a piece of foam core that I picked up at the dollar store. Then I took apart my old turkey on reclaimed wood and made a quick and easy mitered frame:
I diluted some old green wall paint and gave it a quick 'green wash' to cover up the old turkey stencil. (if you look close you can still see a little of the old paint from the outline of the turkey's head on the top board) However, if I didn't share that with you, you probably wouldn't have noticed. In fact, I think it actually makes the wood look more like it was truly 'reclaimed' and not just an old pallet.
To stay in the 'old/vintage/reclaimed' spirit, the rest of the mantle features some old green wine bottles I have been saving. And to go with them I filled some vases with corks.
The garland is reused from last year (it is made from paint chips) and the green shamrock beads are just 4 dollar store necklaces that I cut up and fused to make one long swag.
I used a dollar store doily under the frame to emphasize it was to celebrate St. Patrick's Day mantle and not my love of wine. (Although I think the mantle would be super cute if I just took down the swags and the doily and made it into a generic "all season" version.)
The whole thing only required a $5 investment (the foam board and 4 necklaces) but I think it looks like a million bucks!
And in the spirit of Irish proverbs.. I thought I would share this one (a favorite of mine, but too long for my mantle):

My son's nursery/room (he's a toddler now) is nautical as well and has a lot of similar elements as this is classic and gorgeous, but I love the unique personal elements that each room includes. I also love the pops of red. I am interested in the cat litter box transformation. I've searched the site and though it looks like you intended to post a tutorial, all links simply direct me to a before and after photo. I'd be super happy to read about your process.
